In 1998, Enter Stage Left Theater produced Painting Churches, at the Steps Off Broadway theater in Hopedale (Steps has since
moved to Bellingham).  The four directors, Dawn Anderson, Paul Champlin, Kelly Grill and Mary Scarlata-Rowe, incorporated the
company and  by November 1999, had acquired 501c-3 status. They focused on small shows - cabarets, family theater, and artistic
pieces - including
Selections from Spoon River Anthology, Anne of Green Gables, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and several
musical performances.

In 2004, Paul Champlin wrote an original show and co-directed it with Kelly Grill for a fund raiser for the Cultural Arts Alliance of
Hopkinton.  The show was a musical review entitled
Lullaby of Broadway.  The following year hChamplin wrote Hooray for Hollywood,
and in 2006 ESL presented
Bye, Bye Birdie.

In 2006, with a growth from four to over four hundred families, Enter Stage Left Theater found a full-time residence  at 30 Main Street,
Hopkinton. Its goal was to become a full-scale operating community theater, offering classes and hosting intimate shows conducive to
the cozy space,  along with large scale musicals and
ESL Live!, a totally original Saturday Night Live type show, complete with
sketches, videos and musical guests.  By the end of 2008, ESL Theater will have produced over a dozen shows for that year alone, as
well as sponsored over twenty classes and summer programs, and hosted special programs, like
Hopkinton Idol, Open Mic Night, and
our Entertainment for Young Audiences.
